Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that saving money for future is crucial for each individual including the young people. I completely agree with the statement that everyone should save money for the future, which is essential for their security of life.

There are a number of reasons why i believe that people should save money at their early ages. Firstly, Saving money in younger age is more easy as one is likely to be more productive and energetic. This money can upgrade their life standards. On the other hand, if people save money in their early ages, they are likely to be more relived in future. For instance, a person who has enough savings can ensure better future for his/her children. Moreover, young people with their savings can start a new business that will open many doors for them.

In addition, older people face health issues due to aging. The cost of treatment is relatively high that's why people should save money that can be used in case of any emergency such as any severe accidental injuries or heart related issues. Secondly, aged people are likely to be weak to earn for their lives, with enough savings their lives will be easier to manage. However, People having enough money in their accounts can enjoy their retirement, exploring new places around the world as well as within their home country.

To sum up, considering the factors discussed above, I firmly believe that people should start saving money in their early ages as no one can predict the future.`

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial security, business opportunities, and health-related emergencies. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'upgrading life standards' is vague and lacks specific explanation. While the response is sufficient to address the task, it would benefit from more detailed examples or a deeper exploration of the consequences of not saving to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'that's why' which is a bit informal for an academic essay. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the structure supports the central argument effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'crucial', 'productive', and 'emergency'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'more easy' (should be 'easier'), 'relived' (likely meant 'relieved'), and 'weak to earn' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in younger age' instead of 'at a younger age'), subject-verb agreement issues ('People having enough money... can enjoy'), and punctuation errors (e.g., the stray backtick at the end). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the control over these structures is inconsistent.
