Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a social construction building on the idea that saving money is the best choice to get rich. Saving money is a significant way to save money for the future for all, including young people. This essay argues that saving money is the best choice to avoid financial problems in the future. Because saving money means easy survival and practical advantages. However, investing money can multiply one's income more quickly than saving it.

Saving money is the most significant way to solve financial problems in the future. Saving more money means easy survival, especially for young people if their parents have passed away, but if you save enough money that you are comfortable, survival will become much easier. For example, according to the Dr. Karma Phuntsho there is increased in number of unemployed people because they are not saving money in their teens to start a private business. So, it is important to save money for one's personal future.

Moreover, saving money can bring many practical advantages for the future. If people keep on saving money from their teens to start their own private business which will generate more income than the employees. For example, according to Bhutanese Trade and Commerce, private businesses are mostly owned by those people who save money from their teens. Overall, saving money is a significant way to solve financial problems in the future.

Nevertheless, as far as own perspective goes, saving money is the dumbest solution introduced by poor and middle-class people. Because if individual save money, their purchasing power will keep on declining due to the increase in inflation annually. Therefore, one has to invest money in a business to generate more income, while fighting inflation at the same time. For example, if Mr. John save Nu. one million in 2026 to buy a car later, however, if great inflation occurs in 2030 and the car price doubles, then Mr. John cannot buy his car. So, investing money is the best alternative compared to saving money.

Inconclusion saving money can bring you many advantages, like better survival and practical advantages in the future. However, investing money is better than saving money, as it can double the income and fight inflation at the same time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of saving money, though the position is somewhat contradictory. You initially argue that saving is the 'best choice' but later label it the 'dumbest solution' in favor of investing. While you address both sides, the argument lacks a cohesive central position. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of starting a business. To improve, ensure your thesis statement is clear from the introduction and that your supporting paragraphs consistently reinforce that stance rather than undermining it.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Nevertheless,' and 'Inconclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is hindered by the shift in your argument. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between unemployment and saving is not fully explained. Improving the use of linking words to show contrast and cause-effect relationships would help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'saving money' and 'practical advantages,' which appear multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'social construction building on the idea' and 'great inflation.' To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific terminology related to finance and economics, and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('if individual save money'), article usage, and tense consistency ('if Mr. John save'). Some sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'If people keep on saving money from their teens to start their own private business which will generate more income than the employees.' Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your use of complex sentence structures will significantly improve your score.
