Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by agreeing with the importance of saving money. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the essay mentions saving for future goals and self-reliance, the arguments are often disjointed or unclear, such as the confusing reference to 'gold loan' and 'mortgage' in the context of young people's responsibilities. The position is clear, but the supporting points lack depth and logical progression, often relying on lists rather than cohesive arguments. Some parts, like the mention of 'Treasure chest', are irrelevant to the topic of financial planning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. For example, the transition 'Nevertheless, during school days...' does not logically follow the previous sentence. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'they' in 'I have seen several human that they buy gold', which lacks a clear antecedent. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are often used incorrectly or in a way that makes the text difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'money is becoming increasingly main need', 'junior citizens', and 'luxurise cars'. The student attempts to use more formal vocabulary (e.g., 'accelerates', 'inclination'), but these are often used in contexts that do not make sense. The repetition of basic terms like 'money' and 'bank' indicates a restricted range that prevents the expression of more nuanced ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('money is an important', 'I will elaborates'), article usage ('the money is becoming'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'Although, money is precious resources it should be used wisely.' While there is an attempt at complex structures, these are often inaccurate, leading to a lack of control over grammar and punctuation throughout the response.
