Student answer (Band 7.0)
It has been observed that money is important for both teenagers and adults. Although money is a precious resource, it should be used wisely. I strongly agree with this statement, and I will elaborate on my point of view with valid reasons and appropriate examples.
The fundamental reason for my inclination is that money is becoming an increasingly essential need for humans throughout the world. Moreover, it assists in every aspect of daily life. Both younger and older generations should save money for upcoming days. Financial reserves can be preserved in various forms, such as bank accounts or fixed deposits (FDs). Having a bank deposit helps individuals achieve future goals, especially as savings can grow over time. Furthermore, if school children learn to save money, it enables them to purchase study materials independently and become self-reliant. For instance, many people utilize their savings to invest in assets such as gold, homes, and luxury cars.
However, it cannot be overlooked that money must also be spent on daily necessities. Individuals should fulfill the immediate needs of their households through prudent financial management. Subsequently, while the younger generation may have fewer heavy financial burdens initially, obligations like home loans, car loans, and mortgages must still be paid on time. For instance, whenever a person purchases a car, they might end up spending a significant portion of their funds on that single commitment, highlighting the need for balanced spending.
To sum up, although saving money is crucial for securing a stable financial future, I believe that people, particularly young individuals, should also manage their wealth prudently to ensure long-term security.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating an agreement with the necessity of saving money. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of bank deposits and self-reliance for students. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between saving and purchasing 'luxury cars' is a bit tangential to the core argument of financial security. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more depth in explaining why saving is specifically important for young people beyond just purchasing study materials. Overall, it meets the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. The progression of ideas is smooth, although some transitions could be more sophisticated to enhance the flow. The referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the overall argument without being mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and generally appropriate for the task. The student uses terms like 'prudent financial management', 'financial reserves', and 'self-reliant' effectively. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. While there are no major errors in word choice, the range is somewhat limited, and some phrasing is a bit repetitive. The lexical control is consistent, and the meaning is always clear, which is appropriate for this band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate throughout the text. There are no significant errors that impede communication. The use of punctuation is correct, and the sentence variety helps maintain interest. While the range of complex structures is not exceptionally wide, the control over the structures used is solid, justifying a high score in this criterion.
