Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to maintain a clear position. The introduction mentions discussing 'both views,' which is inappropriate for an 'extent' question that asks for your own opinion. The arguments provided are often unclear or contradictory; for example, the second paragraph argues that saving money makes children lazy, which is a weak and poorly developed point. The ideas lack logical support and the response does not clearly answer the question of whether saving is important. The content is repetitive and lacks the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'firstly,' 'secondly,' and 'in conclusion,' but these are often used mechanically or incorrectly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with sentences that do not flow logically from one to the next. The referencing is often unclear, such as in the phrase 'it is more impact to save money on the children,' where the connection between ideas is lost. The overall progression of the argument is difficult to follow due to the lack of clear topic sentences and logical transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There is frequent misuse of words, such as 'adjusting' instead of 'including,' 'preserve' instead of 'save,' and 'effort' used as a verb. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, leading to repetitive phrasing throughout the text. Many collocations are unnatural, such as 'people easily to buy our expensive things.' The student struggles to use words precisely, which frequently impedes the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, and even these contain frequent errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and word order (e.g., 'people easily to buy our expensive things'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces before commas and periods. Complex sentence attempts are rare and usually grammatically incorrect. The high frequency of errors causes significant strain for the reader and obscures the intended message, preventing the response from reaching a higher band.
