Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that it is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. While some people may disagree with this view, I completely agree with the statement because young people should have knowledge about how to save money for their future. This essay will examine the primary factors supporting this stance and explain why saving money is significant today.

To begin with, one of the main reasons is that money helps people in emergency situations, which plays a significant role in their lives. This means that when unexpected problems occur, having enough money allows people to deal with them quickly without facing serious financial difficulties. For example, if a person suddenly becomes ill or has an accident, they may need to pay for medical treatment, medicines, or transportation. Therefore, having savings can reduce stress and help them receive the necessary support immediately.

Another important point to consider is that money provides financial security for the future, which also contributes to this issue in a meaningful way. In other words, young people can use their savings for important future needs, such as education, housing, or unexpected expenses. This means they do not always have to depend on others or borrow money when they face financial difficulties. As a result, having savings can give people greater independence and peace of mind.

In conclusion, I completely agree that saving money is important for everyone, including young people, because it helps people deal with emergencies and provides financial security for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on emergency preparedness and long-term financial security. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the second and third paragraphs both focus on the benefits of having money, with similar explanations regarding 'financial difficulties' and 'unexpected expenses'. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be more distinct, perhaps by discussing the psychological benefits of early financial literacy or the impact of compound interest on long-term wealth. The response is well-structured, but the depth of analysis remains at a general level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'For example', 'Another important point', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this means that' and 'this also contributes to this issue'. Improving the variety of cohesive links would enhance the flow and make the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses some appropriate collocations like 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', and 'financial difficulties'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. The essay lacks a wider range of less common lexical items or more precise academic terminology. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific vocabulary related to personal finance, such as 'fiscal responsibility', 'contingency fund', or 'long-term investment'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a good level of grammatical control. There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and the majority of sentences are error-free. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the meaning is always clear. While the grammar is reliable, the range of complex structures is somewhat restricted. The student tends to use similar sentence patterns throughout the essay. To achieve a higher band, the student should experiment with more varied complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, to demonstrate greater flexibility and control over more sophisticated grammatical forms.
