Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely recognized that saving money is the most important habit for people of all ages. Some people argue that everyone, including young people, should save money for future generations. I strongly agree with this notion because saving provide financial security and helps people achieve their long-term goal.

One important reason is that saving money prepares people for unexpected situations. Life is uncertain, and emergencies such as illness, accidents, or job loss can happen at any time. If young individuals develop the habit of saving, they will be better able to deal with these problems without depending on others. For example, a student who saves part of their part-time salary can use that money to pay for books and educational expenses and to help their families. As a result, the younger generation became more responsible and mature.

Another prominent reason is that saving helps young people achieve their future dreams and fulfillments. Many goals, such as higher education, starting a business, or buying a home and cars, require a large amount of money. Saving regularly teaches discipline and encourages resposible spending. Instead of westing money on unnecessary shopping, young people learn to plan their finances wisely. In my experience, people who save a small amount every month often feel more confident about their future because they have money available when they need it.

In conclusion, I firmly agree that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future. This habit provides financial security, supports important life goals, and helps people become more responsible with their finances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear and consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding financial security and the achievement of long-term goals are relevant and well-supported with logical explanations and examples, such as the student using part-time earnings for educational expenses. The ideas are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more nuanced analysis, perhaps acknowledging potential counter-arguments or exploring the societal impact of youth financial literacy in greater depth, which would further demonstrate a more sophisticated level of task development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'One important reason', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, the transition between some sentences is slightly mechanical. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this habit', 'these problems') is always precise to maintain a smoother flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses relevant topic-specific terms like 'financial security', 'long-term goal', and 'discipline'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'resposible' and 'westing', which slightly detract from the overall quality. While the range is adequate, it lacks the more sophisticated, less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band. Incorporating more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions would elevate the lexical score. The current range is sufficient for the task but remains somewhat predictable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'saving provide' (subject-verb agreement) and 'younger generation became' (tense inconsistency). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. The student shows a good grasp of basic grammar, but to achieve a higher score, they need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and ensure that subject-verb agreement and tense usage are accurate throughout the entire piece.
