Student answer (Band 6.0)

Having sufficient money for future is better for both planned and unexpected situation. People should learn about managing financial budget especially young generation. Although, people may find difficulties to save money, I agree that it is more crucial to redeem financial budget for future.

The most significant advantage is that it provides financial security during unexpected circumstances such as medical emergencies, accidents, and family requirement. People who have savings do not need to rely on loans, credit cards or other people. Another benefit is that it helps to achieve future goals. Saving money allow people to set a goal such as buying home, car, travelling and further education. Large purchase cannot be done in one month salary, saved money can solve this problem.

Additionally, it develops great financial habit. People often think twice before spending on something and reduce the cost of unnecessary purchase. Student who saves money for future, more likely to look at the expense of them.

Financial responsibility has some drawbacks to consider. Saving money can be unrealistic for people such as students or fresh employee. In the starting of career, people have limited salaries and they have to manage whole expense from that only. Saving money can be unrealistic for them as it requires whole salary to spend on. Also, it may prevent young people from enjoying meaningful experiences. Spending on travel, food and accommodation can improve quality of life. A young person might use part of their income on such activities rather than saving every single penny.

To conclude, although young people enjoy their life, saving money is crucial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding financial security, goal achievement, and the development of good habits are relevant and well-supported. The counter-argument acknowledging the difficulties for young people or those with low salaries is also well-integrated, showing a balanced perspective. However, some ideas could be further extended; for instance, the point about 'meaningful experiences' is a bit brief. Overall, the response is well-developed and directly answers the prompt, fitting the criteria for a band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as the benefits of saving or the challenges faced by young people. Cohesive devices like 'The most significant advantage,' 'Another benefit,' and 'Additionally' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the concluding sentence is somewhat abrupt and lacks a summary of the main points discussed. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'financial security,' 'unexpected circumstances,' and 'financial responsibility.' However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'redeem financial budget' (which is incorrect) and 'fresh employee' (should be 'entry-level employee'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. The repetition of 'saving money' and 'financial' indicates a need for a broader range of synonyms to improve stylistic variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Having sufficient money for future is better' (missing article), 'Large purchase cannot be done in one month salary' (preposition error), and 'Student who saves money... more likely to look at the expense of them' (awkward phrasing). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on article usage, subject-verb agreement, and more accurate prepositional phrases.
