Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, it is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. I partially agree with this view because saving money may have some benefits in future, but at the same time people usually save their money without spending on anything.

Firstly, saving money plays an important role in life of an individual, especially during medical treatments. This is because people suffering from serious diseases such as cancer, they have to spend a large amount of money for treatments as medication and treatments are expensive for such diseases. For example, if a person is suffering from blood cancer, they have to take a treatment from the hospital. The hospital costs, treatments and medications are too expensive. As a result, saved money will help an individual to pay the hospital bills. Secondly, saved money helps people to achieve their goals such as purchasing a house, buying a car, and so on. People usually save money to buy things according to their needs. If enough money is not saved, they will unable to buy such things. Thirdly, young people should start saving money as early as possible. If people start saving money at a young age, they will have more corpus to fulfill their needs.

On the other hand, saving too much money may have some disadvantages, especially for young people. If an individual focus excessively on saving, they may avoid spending money on important experiences and activities that can improve their quality of life. For example, people may miss opportunities to travel and spend time with friends and family because they worried about their future finances. Therefore, while saving is important, people should also use a reasonable portion of their income for their personal needs and enjoy their life.

In conclusion, I partially agree that everyone, including young people should save money for their future. Saving provides financial security during emergencies and help people achieve their goals. However, excessive saving may also avoid people to spend on activities and experiences that improve their quality of life. A balanced approach of saving and spending should be used to achieve goals and improve their lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You successfully argue for the importance of saving while acknowledging the potential downsides of excessive frugality. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of medical emergencies and long-term financial goals. However, the development of some points is slightly repetitive; for instance, the explanation of medical costs could be more concise to allow for deeper exploration of the psychological or societal benefits of saving. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more varied to improve the naturalness of the text. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the overall argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'financial security', 'medical treatments', and 'personal needs'. However, there is some repetition of basic words such as 'money' and 'save'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'have more corpus', which is not a standard collocation in this context. Despite these minor issues, your vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'they have to spend a large amount of money for treatments as medication and treatments are expensive' (redundancy) and 'they will unable to buy' (missing verb 'be'). Additionally, there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'in life of an individual'. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not significantly hinder the reader's understanding of your argument.
