Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is said that people who save money for their future and plan their expenses accordingly are the most happiest. I strongly agree with this statement as it is important to save money for your future needs.

Whether you are young or old everyone should save money as it reduces the stress and enhance mental health for example if one has saved money for their future they will stay stress free knowing if there is any sudden need of help, they have money in their accounts.

Saving money can also helps back up your retirement plan . So, saved money can be used as your pocket money at the age of retirement for example, it can be used to pay the bills for the medicines or small daily day to day expenses.

Money saved can also be used for investment purpose as well. Investing money to buy any goods for example shops, home etc. It will always give you returns which then can also be reused for the purpose to invest again or save it for future use.

Heath conditions are also getting worse these days , as you may not know when a medical treatment will be required . For example saving money for your and your families medical treatment can be very beneficial.

In conclusion, I would say that everyone should save money for their future and plan your current expenses accordingly by reducing the day to day expenses for example fuel, eating outside food, spending on clothes and many more unnecessary items.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding stress reduction, retirement planning, investment, and medical emergencies are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about investment is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of how it specifically relates to the 'future' mentioned in the prompt. The conclusion introduces new ideas about reducing daily expenses, which should have been integrated into the body paragraphs to better support the main argument. Overall, the response covers the requirements but lacks the depth and extension expected for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'for example' are used frequently, and there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly. The transition between the paragraph on retirement and the paragraph on investment is abrupt. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of varied cohesive devices and occasional awkward phrasing in transitions limits the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'money', 'future', and 'save'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'retirement plan', 'investment', 'medical treatment'), the range is limited. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'most happiest' (a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision) and 'daily day to day expenses', which is redundant. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms and collocations to express ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'most happiest' (superlative error), 'Saving money can also helps' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Heath conditions' (spelling). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant phrasing.
