Student answer (Band 7.0)
## Saving Money for the Future
It is often argued that everyone, including young people, should save money for their future. I completely agree with this statement because having savings can help people deal with unexpected situations and achieve their future goals. It can also make young people more responsible and independent.
First of all, saving money is important because people may face unexpected expenses in their lives. For example, they may suddenly need money for medical treatment, repairing a vehicle or dealing with other emergencies. If people have some savings, they can manage these situations without borrowing money from friends, relatives or banks. As a result, saving money can provide financial security and reduce stress during difficult times.
Another major reason is that young people can use their savings for education and other important goals. Higher education, professional courses and training programs can be expensive. Therefore, young people who save money regularly can pay for these opportunities more easily in the future. For instance, a student may save a small amount of money every month and later use it to pay for a useful course that improves their career opportunities.
Furthermore, saving money can help young people become financially independent. They can use their own money to buy necessary items instead of always asking their parents for financial support. This can teach them how to control their spending and make better financial decisions. For example, a young person who saves money may be able to buy a laptop for study without depending completely on their family.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Savings can help people handle emergencies, support their education and become financially independent. Therefore, developing the habit of saving from a young age can be extremely beneficial in the long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout the essay. Each paragraph introduces a relevant, well-developed idea, such as financial security during emergencies, the ability to fund education, and the development of personal responsibility. The arguments are logical and supported by clear, relatable examples, such as saving for a laptop or medical expenses. The response is well-structured and directly answers the 'to what extent' question by providing a clear, consistent argument. All parts of the task are covered effectively, demonstrating a strong understanding of the requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using appropriate cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Another major reason', and 'Furthermore'. The use of referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is used effectively to separate different arguments. The flow of information is natural, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning. The cohesive devices are used accurately and do not feel mechanical, contributing to a coherent and well-structured piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The writer demonstrates a good range of topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', 'financially independent', and 'career opportunities'. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and fits the context well, it lacks a high degree of sophistication or 'less common' lexical items that would typically characterize a band 8 or 9. However, the word choice is precise, and there are no errors that impede communication or cause confusion. The language is natural and fits the formal tone of an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good control of grammatical structures. The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentences effectively, such as 'If people have some savings, they can manage these situations without borrowing money...' and 'Therefore, young people who save money regularly can pay for these opportunities more easily in the future.' The majority of sentences are error-free, and punctuation is used correctly throughout. While the range of structures is solid, it does not consistently demonstrate the 'wide range' of complex structures required for the highest band, but the accuracy is high and the writing is clear and professional.
