Student answer (Band 6.5)
Saving money for the future is necessary for every individual, whether they are young or have reached the age of maturity.
Finances play an important part in our daily lives. A person who is earning should save money for the future or unexpected expenses which can impact the routine of his life. For instance, there can be a medical emergency or a person might need money for the education of children which can place considerable pressure on the family. A certain amount of saved money will ultimately help him in fullfilling those needs. An intelligent way to manage finances can be investing it in shares or mutual funds which may allow it to grow over time instead of just keeping the money in the bank account. Young people should develop financial management skills early in life, as these can benefit them throughout their professional lives.
Although savings are important, they should not be on account of bare minimum survival needs. Many people start to live hand to mouth for just saving some pennies even though they can enjoy a good lifestyle while saving a handsome amount for their future needs. Enjoyment and healthy experiences also play a vital role in growth, mental well-being, and personal development. These are the key parts of life which help us refresh and refine ourselves.
To conclude, there should be a balance between spending and saving. We should not deprive ourselves of the basic leisures of life while trying to save extra amount of money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt effectively by presenting a clear position that saving is important but must be balanced with current quality of life. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as medical emergencies and educational costs. However, the development is somewhat concise. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'young people' aspect of the prompt by discussing specific long-term benefits like compound interest or early retirement planning. The conclusion is clear and directly answers the 'to what extent' aspect of the question by advocating for a balanced approach.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Although', and 'To conclude' are used appropriately to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is sufficient, though the transition between the importance of saving and the warning against excessive frugality could be slightly smoother to enhance the flow. Overall, the structure is coherent and supports the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'unexpected expenses', 'considerable pressure', and 'financial management skills' are used accurately. There are some minor stylistic choices, such as 'saving some pennies' or 'handsome amount', which are slightly informal but do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or academic terminology related to personal finance, such as 'fiscal responsibility' or 'long-term financial security', to demonstrate a wider and more flexible range of lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate good control over basic grammar, and errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion. For example, the use of conditional structures and relative clauses is generally accurate. There are minor slips, such as 'fullfilling' (spelling) and 'basic leisures' (pluralization of leisure). To achieve a higher band, aim to increase the variety of complex structures, such as using more passive voice or inverted conditional sentences, while maintaining the current level of accuracy.
