Student answer (Band 6.0)

In my opinion, it is crucial for everybody, including young people, to save money for their future.

Life has so many obstacles and challenges along the way for human beings, and so many people are not fully prepared for those challenges. That is why they struggle more in the hard times of their life. For example, people often prefer to graduate from college or university, achieve their goals, advance their careers, and make the most of their opportunities. Unfortunately, along that busy life, they forgot their mental and physical health. Suddenly, they get sick and need so many medical appointments to get their diagnosis, and spend much of their money and time. During that time, people need savings to access proper, qualified medical treatment and medicine. It is like to make protection of any kind of risk in their life. If you don't have healthy body, you can not achieve anything.

Moreover, when people get married they usually have a baby. Taking care of a baby, and raising kids are the most responsible job of life. It will require so much effort, time, and money. Usually, moms need to take a maternity leave from their jobs to take care of their baby and dads have to work alone. During that time, people need to savings to raise their kids or hire a nanny. On the one hand, when the kids become older, they need good education, healthy habits like a swimming, dancing etc. That is why they have to take special courses to develop their personal skills, and it will cost.

On the other hand, some people, especially young people prefer they should spend their earnings as they want. Because they believes that no one knows how long we can live; maybe we can die at anytime of life. So they don't make any savings.

But simple reasons that I mentioned, I truly agree that everyone needs their own savings for any risks of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding medical emergencies and the costs of raising children are relevant and well-supported with examples. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the counter-argument regarding young people spending their earnings is introduced but not fully explored or refuted in a way that deepens the argument. While the position is clear, the essay would benefit from more sophisticated analysis of the long-term implications of saving versus immediate consumption to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the one hand', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of medical issues and the paragraph about raising children feels a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'medical appointments', 'maternity leave', and 'qualified medical treatment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make protection of any kind of risk' (should be 'provide protection against') and 'responsible job of life' (should be 'responsibility'). The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('they believes', 'everyone needs their own savings') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'It is like to make protection of any kind of risk in their life.' Despite these errors, the reader is rarely confused, and the grammar does not significantly impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic tense and agreement errors.
