Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an agreement with the importance of saving money. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are repetitive, focusing primarily on the general idea that money is needed for 'emergency situations' and 'future problems' without providing specific, concrete examples or exploring the nuances of why young people specifically should save. The response lacks depth and relies on circular reasoning rather than extending the argument with diverse perspectives or detailed illustrations. To improve, you should aim to provide specific examples, such as saving for education, housing, or retirement, to better support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak due to significant repetition. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'In the conclusion', they are often used to introduce ideas that have already been stated. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences feels mechanical. The lack of variety in sentence structure and the constant restatement of the same point make the text feel disjointed. Improving the logical flow requires moving beyond simple repetition and ensuring each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'important thing', 'different situations', and 'save money' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There is a lack of variety and precision in word choice, which prevents the essay from demonstrating a higher level of language proficiency. To achieve a higher band score, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including synonyms and more sophisticated collocations related to finance and personal development. For example, instead of repeating 'important', you could use 'crucial', 'essential', or 'imperative'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'everyone need to save'), article usage (e.g., 'in today world'), and word order. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the persistent errors in basic grammar limit the score. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence forms, such as using relative clauses or conditional structures, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles and pluralisation.
