Student answer (Band 8.0)
It is often argued that people of all ages, including young people, should save money for their future. Although some people believe that young adults should focus more on enjoying their lives rather than worrying about financial matters, I strongly agree that developing the habit of saving is essential. This is because savings can provide financial security during unexpected situations and help individuals achieve important long-term goals.
One of the main reasons why people should save money is that unexpected financial problems can occur at any stage of life. For instance, a person may suddenly lose their job, face a medical emergency or need to support a family member during a difficult period. Without any savings, they may be forced to borrow money from friends, relatives or financial institutions, which can create additional stress and debt. On the other hand, individuals who have regularly saved a portion of their income are more likely to manage such situations without experiencing serious financial difficulties. Therefore, saving money can provide people with greater security and independence.
Another important reason is that savings can help young people achieve their future ambitions. Many individuals hope to pursue higher education, buy a house, purchase a car or start their own business. However, achieving these goals often requires a significant amount of money. If young people begin saving at an early age, they can gradually accumulate funds and become less dependent on loans in the future. For example, a student who saves a small amount of money regularly may eventually be able to contribute towards their university expenses or other important needs. In addition, developing good financial habits at a young age can help people manage their income more responsibly throughout their lives.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future. Not only can savings provide protection during financial emergencies, but they can also help individuals achieve important personal and professional goals while reducing their dependence on borrowing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You have taken a clear position from the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct, relevant argument—financial security during emergencies and the achievement of long-term goals. You provide specific examples, such as losing a job or saving for university, which effectively support your main points. The conclusion reinforces your stance without simply repeating the introduction. The response is well-structured and directly answers the 'to what extent' question by providing a strong, reasoned argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay demonstrates a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'For instance,' 'On the other hand,' 'In addition,' and 'Not only... but also.' These markers help the reader follow your argument without difficulty. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a concise conclusion. The referencing is clear throughout, and the flow of information is natural and coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task. Phrases like 'financial security,' 'accumulate funds,' and 'unexpected financial problems' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is sufficient and precise, it could be elevated further to reach the highest band by incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common idiomatic expressions. However, your word choice is consistently accurate and contributes to the clarity of your argument. There are no spelling errors, and the language used is natural and fits the formal tone required for an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The essay displays a high level of grammatical control. You use a variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('If young people begin saving...') and relative clauses ('...who saves a small amount...'), with very few errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is accurate throughout. The control over verb tenses and modal verbs is consistent, which helps in expressing your arguments clearly. The writing is fluent and demonstrates a strong command of English grammar, making it easy to read and understand.
