Student answer (Band 7.5)

Saving money is widely regarded as a valuable habit, and many people believe that it should be encouraged from an early age. I completely agree with this view because financial savings provide security during unexpected situations and help young people achieve their long-term goals.

To begin with, saving money offers financial stability in times of uncertainty. Unexpected events such as medical emergencies, unemployment or economic downturns can place individuals under significant financial pressure. Those who have developed the habit of saving are generally better prepared to cope with such challenges without relying on loans or financial support from others. Moreover, maintaining savings can reduce stress and promote greater independence.

Furthermore, young people who save regularly are more likely to accomplish important life objectives. Higher education, starting a business or purchasing a home often require substantial financial resources. By setting aside even a small amount of money each month, young adults can gradually build a fund to support these ambitions. In addition, learning to save at an early age encourages financial discipline, helping individuals distinguish between essential needs and unnecessary spending. This habit can benefit them throughout their lives.

Admittedly, some argue that young people should spend their income on gaining experiences, traveling or developing new skills rather than saving. While such experiences can be valuable, they should not come at the expense of financial security. A balanced approach, where individuals save part of their income while still investing in personal growth, is more practical.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, particularly young people, should save money for the future. Doing so provides protection against unforeseen difficulties and enables individuals to achieve their long-term aspirations while developing responsible financial habits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. The overall structure is coherent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a high band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for an academic context. Phrases such as 'financial stability', 'economic downturns', 'substantial financial resources', and 'unforeseen difficulties' show a level of sophistication. The word choice is generally precise and contributes to the clarity of your arguments. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors. To reach the highest band, you could incorporate more idiomatic or less common collocations, but the current range is sufficient for a strong score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The essay displays a wide range of grammatical structures, including complex sentences with subordinate clauses (e.g., 'While such experiences can be valuable, they should not come at the expense of financial security'). The writing is fluent and demonstrates a high level of accuracy throughout the text.
