Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the past few decades, it has been a debatable issue whether people should save a part of the income for future purposes or not. I, however, completely agree with the former view and put forth my arguments related to this topic.
Admittedly, money is necessary in order for people to meet their basic needs. For examples, we all need money to pay for housing, food, bills, education, and health care. Most people consider it a priority to at least save salary that allows to cover these fundamental needs and have a reasonable quality of life.
Another factor, which is so essential is unforeseen circumstances. For example, Sometimes, people face many conditions such as bankruptcy or unemployment that take years to come back to original phase of life. So, in this condition, our saved money can become a miracle. Also, land prices can be exorbitant. In the upcoming years, it would become really impossible to buy a flat. So, it is opined that saving costs have a positive impact on our lives. Furthermore, people fail to maintain a work-life balance and may suffer from nervous breakdown. That is perhaps why, a popular trend of 'downshifting ' has sprung in numerous developed countries. People are giving up promotions and settling for less. That is what we can called an 'egoistic nature' among the youngsters of today. This clearly shows that money should be saved for future commitments in order to survive.
In conclusion, I reiterate my opinion that money certainly affects people's life and is the most imperative factor to have bank deposited money for one's career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding basic needs and unforeseen circumstances are relevant and supported. However, the paragraph discussing 'downshifting' and 'egoistic nature' is somewhat tangential and not clearly linked to the central argument of saving money for the future. While the position is consistent, the development of ideas is uneven; some points are well-explained, while others, like the mention of land prices, are introduced but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, ensure every sentence directly supports the main thesis and avoid introducing loosely related concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Admittedly', 'Another factor', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the logical progression within the third paragraph is slightly disjointed due to the sudden shift to the topic of 'downshifting'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'exorbitant', 'unforeseen circumstances', and 'imperative'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'bank deposited money' and 'original phase of life', which sound unnatural. There are also minor errors in collocation. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and refining the use of academic vocabulary to ensure it sounds natural in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'save a part of the income' (missing article), 'For examples' (should be 'For example'), and 'That is what we can called' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures would be beneficial.
