Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 222 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain repetitive and under-developed. While you clearly state your position in the introduction and conclusion, the supporting arguments are limited and lack depth. The points regarding financial needs (education, medical, housing) are mentioned but not expanded upon with sufficient detail or logical flow. To improve, you must ensure you meet the length requirement by providing more detailed explanations and specific examples to support your arguments, ensuring the response is fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'Because,' or 'So,' which disrupts the flow. Referencing is also unclear at times, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'young people' and 'aged people' is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in addition') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'money,' 'important,' and 'savings.' There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'groserries' (spelling error), 'heavy hard working,' and 'new building house.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to finance and personal planning, while also paying closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'savings is most important'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and punctuation is inconsistent, such as the use of a slash instead of a period in the conclusion. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
