Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that saving money for their future is crucial while others are convinced that life is short and savings are just a way to bury their money.

Personally, I think being a good money-manager is very important. Being responsible in spending is a required behavior for people who want to build a bright future. That does mean preventing ourselves from passing wonderful holidays or a weekend at a slightly expensive hotel. It's all about equilibrium. In our modern society money can be spent on many things that are not really useful or necessary. We should see money as the remuneration of our hard work each time we are close to spend it on unimportant things. Also having a monthly record of expenditures would be very helpful to track purchasing behaviors and to see if certain activities seem to be overconsuming.

Nowadays savings are necessary in many aspects. Urgencies can never be predicted, future study plans, unplanned work trips or even family and friends call for financial aid. For instance, people discover the importance of savings when they encounter financial problems or pressures. Although it may seem difficult at first glance to put probably more than 30% of our income as savings, it can be done easily once we try it monthly until it becomes a habit. In schools and universities, it's probably possible to study finance, economics and budget management but when it comes to reality, only practice can help you be a good money-manager. It's never about theory rather than daily budget constraints and responsibility combats.

In conclusion, whilst many people believe that spending money without budgeting strategies is the best way to fully enjoy your life, i see that acquiring a balanced and precalculated money management will behave positive effects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of saving money. The ideas are relevant, such as the need for financial security during emergencies and the importance of developing good habits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of '30% of our income' is a good specific detail, but the discussion on 'schools and universities' is slightly underdeveloped and could have been expanded to better support the argument. Overall, the position is consistent throughout, and the response provides a clear, logical argument that meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Also', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother in places. For example, the transition between the discussion of 'remuneration' and 'monthly records' is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, and the overall progression of the argument is easy to follow, though it lacks the sophisticated linking required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'remuneration', 'equilibrium', and 'precalculated', which shows a good range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'behave positive effects' (should be 'have positive effects') and 'responsibility combats' (which is unclear). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and natural collocation expected at higher levels. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the occasional errors in word choice prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which demonstrates a reasonable level of control. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally affect the flow. For example, 'That does mean preventing ourselves from passing wonderful holidays' is slightly awkward, and 'i see that' should be capitalized. Additionally, the phrase 'It's never about theory rather than daily budget constraints' is grammatically confusing. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching the 7.0 band, which requires more consistent control over complex structures.
