Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether everyone should save money for their future. From my perspective, money plays an important role in our lives. We have to save it to tackle emergency situations.

One major advantage of saving money is that when a medical emergency is occurs then people can use their savings to tackle these situations. Nowadays, medical cost have increased we have to pay a lot of money to hospitals. The government already provides free medical treatment in government hospitals, however citizen trust private hospitals which are more costly. For instance, Pakistani government provides free treatment in the government hospitals but people prefer Al-Shifa and Agha Khan hospitals because they believe that these hospital are better to treat any kind of disease. These hospital are expensive. Therefore, citizens of Pakistan prefer to save money to tackle illness.

Furthermore, extra money will be helpful for students because they have to pay a lot of tuition fees. If they develop a habit to save money, they will be able to pursue their higher education without depending on their parents. Many students do part-time jobs to meet their expenses. For example, a student is doing a job during his academic period he will save money for his further education and be able to support his parents. Therefore, almost every university allow students to do part-time job during study because they know the importance of habit saving money.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that saving money is important for everyone, particularly young people, because they can tackle emergency situations easily without depending on others. Moreover, building a habit of saving money will be helpful to get higher education and to build a strong career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas regarding medical emergencies and student financial independence are relevant and well-supported with specific examples from the Pakistani context. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are clear, they could be extended further to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. To improve, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the implications of the ideas presented rather than just stating them, as this would provide a more comprehensive response to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'Therefore' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing (e.g., 'tackle these situations'). The flow is generally smooth, but more varied cohesive devices would enhance the overall readability and sophistication of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'tuition fees', 'academic period', and 'medical emergency'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of repetitive word choice, such as the frequent use of 'tackle' and 'save money'. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'medical emergency is occurs' (subject-verb agreement/tense error), 'medical cost have increased' (pluralization), and 'these hospital are expensive' (pluralization). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with sentence construction. The student demonstrates an ability to use complex sentences, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and noun-number agreement would significantly improve the accuracy.
