Student answer (Band 6.5)

Forming the habit of saving is undoubtedly a good practice for people of all ages. It teaches us to be economic and allows us to lead a life with minimal financial crisis. Therefore, everyone including the younger people should try to put a certain portion of their income into savings. I mostly agree with this statement, though there might be some poeple who do feel the need to save. My justifications are discussed below.

In todays world, a considerable number of countries are facing the problem of inflation. As a result, the income of the people is not sufficient to meet all the needs and demands. So, people need other sources of income to lead a decent life. Savings can play a major role in this case. People can invest their money to generate revenue which will provide them with additional income. However, the money earned can further be invested for future safety. Another important benefit that can arise from savings is the sense of security. The money saved can be used in the time of crisis which allows us to face a difficult situation with strength. People who do not save may face the urgency to borrow money from a financial institution or from the people they know. Consequently, they experience more burden, since they need to pay off the debt along with interest.

Savings also allow poeple to purchase something for which they may not have the budget at that point in time. This practice also enables people to avoid unnecessary expenditures and waste of resources. Thus, this habit should be practiced from the beginning, especially by young people before stepping into their professional life because this will help them to learn to manage their finances properly.

Nonetheless, some people possessing vast amount of resources, do not feel the need to save. Which may seem to make sense but bad things can happen at any time for which savings can provide a cushion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for why saving is beneficial, such as inflation management, financial security, and avoiding debt. The ideas are extended with logical explanations, such as the mention of investment and the avoidance of interest-bearing loans. However, the development could be further strengthened by providing more specific examples or a more nuanced discussion of why young people specifically should start early, rather than just general advice for everyone. The conclusion is a bit brief, and the counter-argument regarding wealthy individuals is introduced but not fully explored or integrated into the main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as inflation and security in the second paragraph, and financial management in the third. You use cohesive devices like 'In todays world', 'As a result', 'However', and 'Consequently' to link ideas effectively. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the final paragraph is quite short and feels somewhat disconnected from the preceding arguments. Improving the flow between the counter-argument and your main stance would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'minimal financial crisis', 'generate revenue', and 'unnecessary expenditures' are used appropriately. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'poeple' (repeated twice) and 'todays' (missing an apostrophe). While you use some good collocations, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations or less common lexical items that demonstrate a wider range of expression, such as 'financial prudence' or 'economic volatility'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and your meaning is always clear. However, there are some punctuation errors, such as the missing apostrophe in 'todays' and the sentence fragment 'Which may seem to make sense but bad things can happen...' which should be connected to the previous clause. While you attempt complex sentences, the variety is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on reducing minor errors in punctuation and increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using more conditional sentences or passive voice constructions to add academic tone.
