Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, saving money is necessary and everyone including youngsters should save money for their future. Although people should spend money for celebrations, I believe that individuals should saving money because it will help them in problems.

People should spend money for events. This is because people should spend time with their families and celebrate events such as birthday or anniversary, so these celebrations will give them a memorable moment and happiness. Individuals should travel to different places with loveable people, explore new things and understand different cultures, which provide an excitement to people and it helps to boost economy. For example, a family can explore India, travel to different states, where they can learn a new language and understand different background cultures. It will help to increase local economy.

Individuals should save money for their future because the money will help them in bad situations. If people start saving their money in early age, then can use their funds on unexpected moments. People do not have to take loan or borrow from others. Furthermore, individuals would not use their funds on unnecessary things, and understand the importance of saving funds. For example, a young person is saving money and something happened to health, they can use their saving for treatment and medication. Therefore, I believe that saving funds is important because people can use them in necessary moments

In conclusion, although individuals should spend funds for special events. I believe that people should focus on saving funds instead to use them on unnecessary products because it will help them in trouble situations

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the importance of saving and the counter-argument regarding spending. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the paragraph on saving is clear, the paragraph on spending focuses more on the benefits of travel and celebration rather than directly addressing why one might argue against saving. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be more deeply extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the first body paragraph (spending) and the main argument (saving) could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed, which occasionally affects the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'money', 'funds', and 'spend'. Phrases like 'loveable people' and 'trouble situations' are slightly unnatural in an academic context. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations that would elevate the score. Improving word choice would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'individuals should saving money' (should save), 'in early age' (at an early age), and 'something happened to health' (if someone has a health issue). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the conclusion where a sentence fragment occurs. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. More attention to verb forms and article usage is required.
