Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is very important for everyone, including young adults, to save money for securing their future. I agree with this statement because, saving could help us in hard times.

Nowadays, with the advancement of technology, everything is out of reach that a minority could hardly afford a healthy lifestyle. People are working while studying for financial stability. Even youth is working hard for making their both ends meet. It is very important in this situation to save money for the future as everything is getting out of hands now. For example, if we take a look on transport, there has been a dramatic change as compared to the past. In the past there was more use of public transport as compared to the present day. Now, there are electric cars and predictably more advancement in the future.

Citizens should save money for a stable future as the world has been undergoing through a major change with the passage of time. For example, generations before us have been landlords and a lot of saving, whereas today people are facing a lot of financial crises due to poverty. Poverty could be reduced if we start spending money for useful purpose, for instance getting quality education, instead of useless things like luxury lifestyles.

In conclusion, young generation should start earning from their early teenage years so that it could help them in building a good future. They can work from home or start with small businesses like opening a small restaurant as it would be beneficial for them in their upcoming years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing with the importance of saving money. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the introduction and conclusion state a clear position, the supporting paragraphs lack depth and focus. For instance, the discussion on transport and electric cars is largely irrelevant to the topic of saving money. The argument regarding poverty and education is more relevant but remains underdeveloped. To improve, you should focus on providing clear, logical reasons for your stance, such as financial security during emergencies or long-term investment, rather than digressing into unrelated technological or historical observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is often weak. Transitions are sometimes mechanical or misused, such as the sudden shift to transport examples in the second paragraph. While some cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'In conclusion' are used, the connection between sentences is frequently disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-supported idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'very important' and 'making their both ends meet' (an incorrect idiom). There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'spending money for useful purpose' and 'undergoing through a major change'. While you attempt to use some topic-related vocabulary, the range is limited. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions, and ensure that your word choices are accurate and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'everything is out of reach that a minority could hardly afford' and 'generations before us have been landlords and a lot of saving'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also problematic in several places. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the overall impact. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and practicing the construction of complex sentences to ensure they are error-free.
