Student answer (Band 6.5)

it is vital for everyone, including young adults to save money for their future. I stongly agree with this statement, as it helps individuals to meet up with financial responsiblities, emergencies and improve their standard of living.

One of the major reasons why I support this statement is that saving money help members of society to meet up with financial commitments and basic needs of life such as food, clothing and shelter. This ensures that individuals have adequate fund to cater for their themselves and families. Also, in cases of emergencies, it ensures that they can conveniently sort out bills including medical bills and tuition. For instance, saving money ensures that individuals have adequate financial resources to pay for electricity bills, feeding and healthcare.

Another significant reason is that keeping money for the future can serve as an investment. This means that many young people save their income for a period of time to pursue greener pastures including furthering their education abroad and acquiring assets such as Laptop and mobile devices. To illustrate, many youth nowadays save their money in banks for  several years inorder to pay tuituon fees.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial security and investment, which are well-supported with examples like paying for tuition and medical bills. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the points regarding 'financial commitments' and 'emergencies' overlap significantly. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the long-term societal or psychological benefits of saving, rather than listing similar examples of bills. The position is consistent, but the depth of analysis could be improved by exploring the counter-argument or the broader economic implications of saving for young people.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'One of the major reasons', 'Another significant reason', and 'In conclusion' effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the comma splice in the final paragraph: 'life. , Additionally,'. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring punctuation is precise would enhance the flow and cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial responsibilities', 'standard of living', and 'greener pastures'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'stongly', 'responsiblities', 'tuituon', and 'inorder', which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'meet up with' (a phrasal verb that is a bit informal) and 'cater for their themselves'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and proofreading carefully to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that could otherwise be avoided.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('saving money help' instead of 'helps') and incorrect pronoun usage ('cater for their themselves'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and spacing issues. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately will significantly improve your score.
