Student answer (Band 6.0)

Finandial stability is very important for everyone and most of the people wants to be financially independent and earn their own money. Earning money has been a necessity and a crucial part of our livelihood. Likewise, saving is also important to for one's future, crucial situations, financial instability, medical emergencies and etc.

In my opinion, I believe smart and clever people believes in saving money and it is very important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. Earning and saving money goes hand in hand and mature people tend to save money for their future. Life is not always the same as money may come and go, like sometimes many may face negative circumstances and situations or financial issues. In the worse situation the saving are going to help us to cope up with the financial issues. For example, an old man may lost their ability to see due to some medical conditions and eventually, their vision is lost forever over time. As they don't have any savings to contribute for the medical bills and surgery they now have to leave their job and ask for financial support from their relatives and friends. But if they would have saved some money in the past, then they can have a chance to pay fees for the hospital bills. This shows how savings money can help someone financially in the future.

Spending money is also important but we should spend money wisely and when needed. We should stop spending recklessly on anything. The people who earn money should always contribute some percentage of their earnings into saving and over time the saving will be increased into a larger amount that will ultimately help in the financial downfall, so everyone should start saving money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of saving money. The ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on medical emergencies and financial instability. However, the development is somewhat limited. The example of the 'old man' is a bit repetitive and lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be extended further by discussing the broader economic benefits or the psychological advantages of saving for young people specifically, rather than just focusing on emergency scenarios. The response covers all parts of the task but remains at a fairly general level of discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure. There is a clear introduction, a body paragraph with an example, and a concluding paragraph. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Likewise' and 'For example' are used correctly, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow of ideas within the second paragraph feels a bit disjointed due to the repetitive nature of the example provided. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the linking could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a reliance on basic terms such as 'money', 'saving', and 'important'. While there are attempts at more complex collocations like 'financial stability' and 'financial downfall', there are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'saving money' used inconsistently as 'savings money'. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common lexical items expected at higher bands. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range is limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'most of the people wants' instead of 'want' and 'smart and clever people believes' instead of 'believe'. There are also errors in tense and article usage, such as 'in the worse situation' instead of 'in the worst situation' and 'the saving are going to help'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the meaning, they are frequent enough to limit the score to a 5.5.
