Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a widely accepted view that everyone, especially younger generation should save money in order to secure a better future. I totally agree with the stance because the habit of saving money will result in a more disciplined and responsible person and in future it will prove helpful in the time of need.

First of all, if young people are taught to spend their money carefully, they will develop a routine of saving money. They are making lists of expenses and plan accordingly. This lifestyle will make them disciplined and eventually become responsible individuals who are not wasting money on buying useless things. For example, students who have a habit of putting some cash aside in their accounts will be spending less money on online shopping as compared to students who are not habitual of cutting expenses.

Secondly, this saved amount can be used in the future times. Accidents are unavoidable, so the people who are economical in spending money are fully prepared for unfortunate situation. Besides, people are encouraged to save money if they are interested in achieving any type of future goal, especially educational one. Therefore, saved amount will prove fruitful for everyone. For instances, young people who have a goal to study abroad will use their saved amount in buying tickets and visa for the desired country instead of depending on their caregivers or parents.

In conclusion, it should be habitual for everyone to set aside some money because this behavior will make them more disciplined and they have this confidence that they are ready for future

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding discipline and financial security are relevant and supported with examples, such as students managing online shopping habits or saving for study abroad. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments could be extended further by discussing the broader economic impact or the psychological benefits of financial independence. While the ideas are clear, they remain at a somewhat general level. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well, providing a coherent argument that directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', 'Besides', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in referencing, such as 'the people who are economical in spending money'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the progression is clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive links to connect ideas more naturally rather than relying on simple sequence markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'expenses', 'economical', and 'caregivers'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'future times' instead of 'the future' or 'habitual of cutting expenses' instead of 'in the habit of cutting expenses'. The word choice is generally accurate but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, the student should focus on using more idiomatic expressions and precise academic collocations to enhance the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using conditional sentences ('if young people are taught...'), which adds variety. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'especially younger generation' (missing article), 'in future' (should be 'in the future'), and 'For instances' (should be 'For instance'). Punctuation is generally functional, though the final sentence is missing a full stop. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy.
