Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that, everyone including young people should save money for their future. I strongly agree with the view that young people should save money because it can provide them financial security and help young people to achieve unexpected expenses.

One important reason why young people should save money is that it will give them financial security. people may face unexpected situations like loss of job, accident, having an urgent expense and need investment for further studies. If young people develop habit of saving money, they will be able to solve their problems without heavily depending on others. For example, a university student who regularly saves a small amount of money can later use this for getting admission in any course or educational materials.

Secondly, saving money help young people achieve their long-term goals. For example, if people want to buy a car, house or a motorbike, it will require a considerable amount of money. But, if they will have savings then they will be able to fulfil their dreams because its better to march the beat of your own drum.

In addition, learning to save teaches them financial discipline and avoiding unnecessary spending. However, young people should not save every single penny because they also need money for their present necessities. Spending a reasonable amount on present needs, hobbies or social activities leads to personal development. Therefore, the best approach is to maintain a balance between saving for the future and enjoying the present.

Conclusively, I agree with the view that young people should save money for their future. Although they should have some money for their present needs, developing a regular saving habit can provide safety net and help them achieve ultimate objectives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have clearly addressed the prompt and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. Your ideas regarding financial security and long-term goal achievement are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the university student scenario. However, the development of your points could be slightly more sophisticated to reach a higher band. For instance, while you mention 'financial discipline', this could be expanded upon to explain the psychological benefits of saving. Overall, you have fulfilled all requirements of the task by providing a clear argument and supporting it with logical reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'One important reason', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'its better to march the beat of your own drum', which is an idiom that does not fit the context of saving for a car or house. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'financial security', 'long-term goals', and 'financial discipline' are used effectively. You attempt to use idiomatic language, but as noted, 'march to the beat of your own drum' is used incorrectly here, as it refers to individuality rather than financial planning. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'help young people to achieve unexpected expenses', where 'cover' or 'manage' would be more appropriate. Expanding your range of collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('develop habit', 'provide safety net') and subject-verb agreement issues ('saving money help'). Additionally, the sentence 'if they will have savings then they will be able to' is slightly awkward; a more natural structure would be 'if they have savings, they will be able to'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and verb tense consistency will improve your accuracy.
