Student answer (Band 6.0)
With respect to over spending and unnecessary usage of money, many financial management experts say that everyone should save their money for their coming time, and it applies to youth too. However, I completely disagree with this statement.
I believe that savings are a scam. By that, I also don't mean that one should maximize expenditures. My point is that rather than saving money, one should invest money in such a way that it brings him high yield for the future. Because as far as just savings are concerned, it will degrade value of money in the future as inflation will almost be increasing always. Your money will lose it's original worth too.
I have learnt it the bad way. My father saved three hundred thousand rupees in 2018, for my future expenses of higher education. But what happened was very disappointing. As the time for my admission came in 2023, the tution fee of the university was raised from 2 lac 50 thousand to 5 lac rupees. Due to inflation over period of 5 years, I was unable to proceed for university that year and we took loan from some relatives later.
While on the other hand, my uncle in the same year 2018, invested same amount of 3 lac rupees in real estate industry and purchased a plot, aiming to resell it for paying educational expenses of his daughter later. In 2023, when my cousin got admission into same university, her father sold that plot for 7 lac rupees, as real estate sector boomed in these years, making significant profit.
Crux of the discussion is that always go for investing rather than just saving, because you never know whether there will be more inflation in future or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, although the argument is somewhat narrow. You interpret 'saving' as strictly 'hoarding cash' rather than the broader financial concept of 'setting aside resources for the future.' By defining saving as a 'scam,' you create a false dichotomy between saving and investing. While your personal anecdote is relevant and supports your stance well, the essay would benefit from acknowledging that investing itself is a form of long-term saving. The position is consistent, but the development could be more nuanced to fully explore the complexities of financial planning for young people.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'While on the other hand' and 'Because as far as' to connect ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or informal, such as 'Crux of the discussion is that.' Paragraphing is used effectively to separate your argument from your supporting examples. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the link between the introduction and the body could be more sophisticated to better bridge the transition from the prompt's premise to your counter-argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'financial management experts,' 'high yield,' and 'real estate industry' are used appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'coming time' instead of 'future' and 'degrade value' instead of 'depreciate the value.' Additionally, 'tution' is misspelled. While you attempt to use more sophisticated terms, the overall lexical variety is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary related to finance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show control over basic grammar, but there are several recurring errors. For example, 'it's original worth' should be 'its' (possessive), and 'inflation will almost be increasing always' is awkward phrasing. There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text (e.g., 'the tution fee'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for small grammatical slips would improve your score.
