IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

It is often argued that everyone, particularly young people, should save money for their future. I strongly agree with this statement because having savings provides financial security, helps people manage unexpected expenses and allows them to achieve their long-term goals.

First of all, saving money gives people a financial safety net when unexpected problems occur. Life can be unpredictable, and individuals may suddenly need money for medical treatment, education or unemployment. If they have savings, they can deal with these situations without borrowing money from others. For example, a young employee who saves part of their monthly salary can support themselves if they lose their job. Therefore, **saving for a rainy day** can reduce financial stress and provide greater stability.

Moreover, developing the habit of saving at a young age can help people achieve their future goals. Many young adults want to buy a house, start a business, travel abroad or continue their education. These goals usually require a large amount of money, so saving a little every month can make a significant difference. As the saying goes, every little bit helps. For instance, a student who regularly saves money from a part-time job may eventually have enough to pay for further education. This habit can also teach young people how to manage their money wisely.

However, young people should not focus entirely on saving and forget to enjoy their present lives. They should find a balance between saving and spending. For example, they can put aside a fixed percentage of their income while using the remaining amount for essential needs and reasonable entertainment.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Saving for a rainy day provides financial protection, while regular savings can help people achieve their goals and build responsible financial habits.
