Student answer (Band 6.5)

Saving is essential for everyone, particularly young people, for future responsibilities. I strongly believe that setting aside a portion of one's income is crucial for financial security and future goals.

One compelling arguments is that it is important to build up savings from an early age. Young people should start savings because saving up provides financial independence and they can achieve their long term future goals. In this way they will learn budgeting and responsible spending. Making a regular budgeting makes them financially independent and responsible. Savings provide a financial cushion in the difficult times. they can cope with any emergency situation. For instance, if a young person want to pursue higher education or invest in business, he should start setting money aside every month from this way he will achieve his future goals. Budgeting not only provide financial security but also provides sense of security.

Although, saving helps people build a financial reserve, excessive saving can reduce quality of life. Young people should maintain a balance between saving and spending. Youngsters need to enjoy life, they should spend on personal development, therefore, balanced saving is best.

For example, if a person accumulate saving for future needs he will deprive himself from personal needs, excessive saving can reduce their quality of life.

To conclude, it is important to build up savings from early age but excessive savings can reduce quality of life. I strongly agree that setting aside a portion of one's income is essential for achieving long term stability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as financial independence and the need for a balance between saving and spending. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the benefits of budgeting are mentioned multiple times in the second paragraph without adding new depth. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively restates the position, ensuring the task requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits of saving from the counter-argument regarding quality of life. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'For instance', 'Although', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the abrupt start of the sentence 'they can cope with any emergency situation' without a clear link to the previous thought. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'financial cushion', 'financial reserve', and 'personal development'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of words like 'saving', 'financial', and 'security'. Some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'making a regular budgeting' instead of 'creating a budget'. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider variety of synonyms and more precise academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('if a young person want to', 'budgeting not only provide'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. The sentence 'from this way he will achieve his future goals' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic agreement and preposition usage would be beneficial.
