Student answer (Band 6.0)

In my opinion, I do believe that saving money for future purposes is very crucial for both younger and older people. When times are hard, savings will always help you get out of the rough road quickly.

I agree with this statement because of many reasons and some being, current economy. Which is very volatile and can change very bad and quick if not done it right. There might come a situation where you are in urgent need of few dollars to spend on grocery, that's when savings come in and you will be able to survive the hardship. Additionally, saving whilst you are young can help you have financial discipline which I believe is a very hard trait in current generation. People currently spend without giving it a second of thought. In contrast, saving few dollars would really help you out in many ways. Moreover, older people should save money like many are already doing so. It can help with medications, presents for their loved ones which i personally myself have noticed them doing this very often and on every occasion. I have seen people building homes with the money they saved, by that I realised how important it is to save money when you are still young.

I personally have experienced the consequences of mindless spending. There was a situation in my life not so long ago, where I have to think twice to spend on food. I recklessly spent so much money on many things some being skincare, makeup and what not. I bought every unnecessary stuff without even thinking that these money might come handy in the coming days. There are many more experiences like this happened in my life and those I know.

In conclusion, I personally feel like people regarding their age should start saving money. That will help them in their near future in ways you can't imagine.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear agreement with the statement. You provide relevant reasons, such as economic volatility and the development of financial discipline. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about older people saving for medications and gifts is a bit anecdotal and lacks a broader perspective on retirement planning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended with deeper analysis rather than relying on personal examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall depth of the argument is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'Which is very volatile'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to create a more cohesive text. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved to better link the supporting evidence to the main arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'volatile', 'financial discipline', and 'consequences'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and informal phrasing, such as 'what not', 'every unnecessary stuff', and 'these money'. These errors occasionally impact the academic tone of the essay. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal, conversational expressions. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('these money might come handy'), missing articles, and sentence fragments ('Which is very volatile...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and article usage.
