Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued by some people that saving money for the future is an essential thing for everyone, including young individuals. I partially agree with the given statement as the other side cannot be overlooked. This essay will discuss both the sides in detail in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, there are several benefits of saving money for the future. First of all, people can use those funds for their higher education. To explain, if a student requires some money for admission process, he can use that funds. For example, in Japan, young students pay their academic fees from their savings which help them to become financially independent. Another advantage of setting aside funds is that individuals can use that money in medical emergency. To elaborate, if someone suddenly get a heart attack and requires a sudden surgery, so at that time people can use their savings. For instance, according to a survey conducted by National Sample Survey Office, in India, in 2025, on ten thousand hospitals, it was observed that around 60% of patients use their saving funds for their treatment.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of saving money for coming years. Firstly, it creates a mental pressure on a person. To elaborate, people are not able to live freely because they feel pressure of saving money for future. For example, if a person is going on vacation. He will plan according to his budget and cannot spend alot of money on vacation because he have to save funds for future. which create a burden on them.

In conclusion, eventhough there are few disadvantage of saving funds for future, the advantages are much more than that.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the importance of saving and the potential drawbacks. However, the development is uneven. While the arguments for saving are supported with examples, the counter-argument regarding 'mental pressure' is less developed and lacks a concrete, real-world example. The position is clear, but the conclusion is abrupt and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are equally extended and that the conclusion provides a more comprehensive summary of the main ideas discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Another advantage', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the fragmented sentence 'which create a burden on them' in the third paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'that funds' instead of 'those funds'. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'financially independent' and 'medical emergency'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'sudden surgery' (emergency surgery is more natural) and 'saving funds' (savings is sufficient). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding redundant word combinations to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('someone suddenly get a heart attack', 'which create a burden') and article usage ('in medical emergency'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments and misused commas. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence construction will be essential for improvement.
