Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, everyone believes, including young people that saving is important for their future. I completely agree with this statement because people can invest it wherever they want like business, investment etc.

Firstly, saving makes people life easier. They don't have to worry about anything and can spend anywhere. Also, the habit of saving makes people discipline, punctual and dedicated. For example, a person with saving habit do not spend money on unnecessary things. This can be used in the time of emergency. In addition to this, saving makes people life more secure because we often see people chasing money till the end. They don't have time for themselves and not for their family. Secondly, it encourage and motivate people towards the habit of saving money since young age so that they can have relax life after retirement. They could spend the quality life when they have enough saving for their future.

Moreover, we could spend it in somewhere so that we can make money from it. Life is uncertain and anything could happen anytime. So we have to be always ready for it. For instance, if we have to admit in hospital and need a lot of money, this saving amount will help. Therefore, we have to start from today and encourage others to follow the habit of saving.

In conclusion, while saving does have certain disadvantages, I strongly believe that the children including everyone should understand the importance of saving that contribute to better life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the response falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding financial security and emergency preparedness are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The conclusion mentions 'disadvantages' of saving, which is confusing as the essay does not discuss any such drawbacks, suggesting a lack of careful planning. To improve, ensure all ideas are fully extended with specific, concrete examples and ensure the word count meets the minimum threshold to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Moreover, we could spend it in somewhere' is awkward and lacks logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'it' without a precise antecedent. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'Firstly' and 'In addition to this', the overall structure feels a bit disjointed. Improving the variety and precision of cohesive devices will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'makes people discipline' (should be 'disciplined') and 'spend the quality life' (should be 'a quality life'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items related to finance and personal development, while ensuring they are used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a person with saving habit do not spend'), article usage (e.g., 'in the time of emergency'), and prepositional errors (e.g., 'spend it in somewhere'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical consistency and diversifying sentence structures would significantly improve your score.
