Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is necessary for every individual to save money for their future including young ones also. But it's importance varies in different age groups. In my opinion, it's better to minimize your expenses and do savings. Especially when someone is young and in struggling phase.

Firstly savings helps us with a lot more than we think. Starting with the age group of teens. Although teenage is a carefree phase of life. In this phase mostly children do not focus on future plannings and neither they have a clear roadmap. So, parents should aware their kids and teach them that, people have to go though many difficult times and sometimes, they also have to face some ups and downs. Therefore, it is very important to be prepared for those situations and do savings also make it a habit. It also helps them to balance their lives. For example, if a teen get 100 dollars pocket money monthly. Then he/she must have a habit to save atleast 20 dollars from it.

Coming up on the adults. It is way more important for them to save money due to bundle of responsibilities. Mostly in USA and Canada a man leads the house and manage all the expenses. Therefore, it is very concerning to save money for unpredictable and hard situations. In addition to this, saving also helps to get the thing you want. For example. If anyone wants to upgrade his ride, since do not have that much money to do so. Nevertheless he had any savings, it would help him/her a lot.

Closing the topic with a well known saying that, " Do not save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving".

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of saving money for young people and adults. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding teenagers is a bit simplistic, and the example provided is quite basic. The section on adults relies on generalizations about gender roles in specific countries, which detracts from the depth of the argument. To improve, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasoning and more sophisticated examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic, rather than relying on anecdotal or stereotypical scenarios.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to this', and 'Nevertheless'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Coming up on the adults' and 'Closing the topic with a well known saying'. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'in this phase' and 'do savings'. While the meaning is always clear, there is a lack of less common lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'bundle of responsibilities' or 'upgrade his ride'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more academic collocations and varied vocabulary to express complex ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'savings helps us' (subject-verb agreement), 'parents should aware their kids' (incorrect verb form), and 'since do not have that much money' (fragment). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and comma usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
