Student answer (Band 6.5)

Saving money for future is crucial for everyone including youth. In my opinion, it is essential to have financial awareness and liquidity for the people of all age groups. However, money ought to be saved in moderation, an individual must neither be extravagant nor miser in his spending.

Husbanding resources is the key to financial stability and promises sufficent savings. The need to conserve money emerges from the desire of people to have a comfortable lifestyle without worrying much about their budget. People of both age groups, aged brains and youngsters should act with responsibility when it comes to the finance. Consequently, older people can comfortably afford good healthcare and can fund their child education. In many countries for example, in Pakistan, aged population is not benefitted by government and its people have to afford their entire lifestyle, saving money would make it convenient for them to be able to afford housing and rents even after retirement. Moreover, young people need money to support their higher education, to buy essential gadgets and to liberate them from financial dependency. This habit not only instill’s financial awareness in young brains but also make them mature about spending money.

However, moderation is the key. Saving money doesn’t mean that one should start pinching pennies. Expenditures should be made in moderation and must be done where required. It must not make an individual miser in his spending. underspending habits can make a person deprive of essential life experiences for instance, travelleling and exploring new places. One must not cut back on good healthcare or good child care in order to save money. Practicing frugality must not halters one’s access on good quality diet and attire.

In conclusion, I am a strong advocate of economizing and building up a capital acuumulation for future necessities and rainy days. However, this practice should be done in moderation only.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that saving is important but should be balanced with moderation. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the situation in Pakistan and the needs of young people. However, the development is slightly uneven; while the arguments are clear, some points could be expanded further to reach a higher level of sophistication. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main argument. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 7 as it addresses all parts of the task with a clear, developed position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits of saving from the necessity of moderation. Cohesive devices such as 'Consequently', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to link ideas effectively. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'aged brains and youngsters', which is slightly unnatural. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear throughout the text, justifying a Band 7 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally sufficient and allows for some precision, such as 'financial awareness', 'liquidity', and 'capital accumulation'. There are attempts to use less common items, though some word choices are slightly awkward or non-standard, such as 'husbanding resources' or 'aged brains'. Additionally, there are minor spelling and punctuation errors, such as 'instill’s' (incorrect apostrophe) and 'acuumulation' (spelling). Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the range is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly, and the errors do not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, but there are persistent errors in articles and prepositions, such as 'fund their child education' (should be 'children's education') and 'deprive of' (should be 'deprived of'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor slips like the unnecessary apostrophe in 'instill’s'. While complex structures are attempted, they are not always perfectly executed. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score.
