Student answer (Band 6.0)

Saving money for the future is very important for everybody, particularly young people. I completely agree with this statement because saving money provides financial security and helps people achieve their future goals. This essay will discuss the reasons why saving money is essential.

On the one hand, saving money has a vital role in future emergencies. There may be a lot of unexpected expenses faced by individuals like medical treatment, job loss, family problems and so on. Money may be spent on urgent repairs like car or bike accidents otherwise, may have to be borrowed by someone else. Savings may prevent someone to be dependent on others like family members or friends and it gives a sense of self-confident. For example, a young person who regularly saves part of their salary can deal with unexpected medical or electrical bills without borrowing money.

On the other hand, saving money may help younger people to achieve their future goals. Start saving money at a young age, make you capable to do marriage, build a house, or get higher education. It may also encourages people to start business at a young age as they have much time to grow it. Money is loosing its value day by day, and early savings may turns into a significant amount later because you can get larger amounts from smaller ones. For instance, a university student who saves money from their first job may eventually have enough money for higher education or starting a small business.

I completely agree that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future because savings can provide financial security during emergencies and help people achieve their long-term goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial security and future goals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'money losing its value' is a good observation but is not fully explained or linked back to the core argument of why young people specifically should save. While the essay is well-structured, the supporting examples, such as 'car or bike accidents', are a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be extended with more sophisticated reasoning or broader societal implications.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'otherwise, may have to be borrowed by someone else', which lacks a clear subject. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main arguments, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', and 'long-term goals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make you capable to do marriage' (should be 'enables you to afford marriage') and 'Money is loosing its value' (spelling error: 'losing'). The range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of collocations would improve the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include 'It may also encourages' (subject-verb agreement error), 'early savings may turns into' (verb form error), and 'prevent someone to be dependent' (incorrect preposition/infinitive usage). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs and infinitive structures.
