Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that everyone, including young people, should save money for their future. I completely agree with this view because saving money can provide financial security and help people achieve their long-term goals.
One major reason why people should save money is that it can protect them from unexpected financial problems. Life is unpredictable, and people may suddenly have to pay for medical treatment, lose their job, or deal with other emergencies. If they have some savings, they can manage these situations without depending on others or taking loans. For example, a young person who regularly saves a small part of their salary can use this money if they become unemployed for a few months. Therefore, having savings can give people greater financial security and peace of mind.
Another important reason is that saving money helps people achieve their future goals. Young people may want to buy a house, start a business, continue their education or travel abroad. These goals usually require a large amount of money, so it is difficult to achieve them without proper financial planning. By saving a small amount regularly, people can gradually build enough money to meet their objectives. For instance, a young employee who saves part of their monthly income could eventually use these savings to pay for higher education or make a deposit on a house.
However, I believe young people should not save all of their income because they also need to enjoy their lives and meet their current needs. The most sensible approach is to maintain a balance between saving and spending. For example, a young person could save 10–20% of their income while using the rest for daily expenses and reasonable leisure activities.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, particularly young people, should save money for the future. Although they should enjoy their present life, regular saving can provide financial security and help them achieve important long-term goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. Each paragraph is well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of medical emergencies and the specific goal of buying a house. The ideas are extended logically, and the inclusion of a counter-argument regarding the need for balance adds depth to the discussion. The response is well-structured and directly answers the question of to what extent you agree with the importance of saving for young people.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'One major reason', 'Another important reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through your argument. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each section serving a distinct purpose in the overall structure. The flow of information is natural, and there is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive use of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'financial security', 'unexpected financial problems', and 'sensible approach' are used accurately and appropriately. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it leans towards standard, everyday academic English. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated or idiomatic collocations related to personal finance, such as 'fiscal prudence' or 'long-term financial stability'. However, the current range is more than adequate for the task, and there are no errors in word choice that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good command of grammatical structures. You use a mix of simple and complex sentences effectively, such as the conditional structure 'If they have some savings, they can manage these situations'. Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and there are very few grammatical errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, showing a high level of control. While the sentence structures are clear and accurate, incorporating a wider variety of more complex grammatical forms, such as passive voice or inversion, could further enhance the sophistication of your writing.
