Student answer (Band 6.5)

Money is the most important asset whose significance can never be disregarded. We need money inorder to fulfill our basic necessities as well other expenses. In present world for instance, we need money even to buy fresh drinking water which ensures our survival. So inorder to live comfortably, everyone needs to earn money. However, it is argued by some that only earning money for the present is not sufficient instead everyone, including young people, should save money for the future.I tend to agree with this notion.

In the first place, the most pressing reason why we need to save money is because future is unpredictable and nobody can exactly say that he may never encounter unfortunate events in their future. If someone is in a good condition for now, then it automatically doesn't guarantee his sustainablity later in life. It is especially essential for young people to save money because there may occur such an event in their lives, where they may be in dire need of money as it can be required for their education, basic essentials or incase of an emergency. So if they have some amount stored in the bank or have got some savings, they may not need to be burdened by loans or anything and can easily satisfy their needs.

To illustrate, a recent survey conducted in Pakistan has concluded that people who spend money carefully instead of splurging it and allocate some of it into their savings are 40% more likely to start their own business and become successful enterpreneurs than those who do not mind the importance of saving money. Hence, it is an established fact that money cannot be taken as forgranted and it should be spent with careful consideration rather than spending it on useless luxuries. Also, they say that we should hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. So every individual should absolutely save a minimal amount that could be of use to him in the future. In addition, another significant argument in favor of saving money is that youngsters should be prepared to handle their expenses and should rather invest it into profitable things which may benefit them later in life. Just as they say, " when life gives you lemons, make a lemonade". To exemplify, an article published in Dawn reveals that most of the self-made billionairs say that they used to be meticulous while spending money as they treated it as an asset and that is the reason, why they managed to control their expenses and start their own business. Thus, it is pertinent to say that we should start saving money in our daily lives too by allocating a specified budget for ourselves and choose such products and buy such things which we may not regret in the future.

To cap it all, it is a foregone conclusion that almost everyone including youngsters should save money, keeping in mind that some problems can be inevitable and inorder to remain in the safezone and avoid asking others or taking loans from banks. They should have some funds separated for future use as you can never guess in what circumstances you might be in the future. And as they say, " prevention is better than cure". So i firmly believe in this saying, as saving money is kind of similar to investing in your own future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the unpredictability of the future and the benefits of financial discipline for young people are well-developed. You provide relevant examples, such as the mention of entrepreneurial success and the importance of avoiding debt. The ideas are extended logically, and the conclusion reinforces your stance effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that all examples are fully integrated into the flow of the argument rather than feeling slightly anecdotal, and maintain a consistent focus on the 'young people' aspect throughout all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. You use a variety of cohesive devices, such as 'In the first place', 'To illustrate', and 'To cap it all', which help guide the reader. However, there is some minor mechanical use of these devices, and occasionally, the transition between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly repetitive in their structure. Overall, the essay flows well and the central ideas are easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'dire need', 'meticulous', and 'foregone conclusion' show an awareness of style. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sustainablity' (spelling), 'enterpreneurs' (spelling), and 'taken as forgranted' (should be 'taken for granted'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your use of less common lexical items and ensuring correct spelling would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate control over complex forms, such as conditional sentences ('If someone is in a good condition...'). However, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods ('survival. So'), incorrect article usage, and some awkward phrasing ('there may occur such an event'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for punctuation and subject-verb agreement to increase the number of error-free sentences.
