Student answer (Band 5.5)

In todays society money is very important thing, so every person should start saving it for future, including youngsters. Saving money helps people in difficult and tough times so, I completely agree with this statement.

Money is very essential part in community. If we save money for the future it would be very useful in not only for us but also for our next generations. For example, in recent Corona pandemic, many people suffered due to lack of money and lots of people lost their life as they could not even afford basic needs. If they had saved money for future it would be really helpful in such pandimic. If people save money then it would also be useful for some major illness in future, or for kids college.

Furthermore, young people should make a habit of saving money. Most of todays youngsters care less about future and try to enjoy in present. If they don't start saving they are likely to suffer more in coming future. For example, Young people without a habit of saving money are more valnurable to pandemic like corona which lasted for more than year. They should learn saving from China. Chinese people save most of their money for future usage, as they have suffered in past and have learnt a lesson of saving money.

In conclusion, if people specially young ones want to survive in future they should start saving money for future. It would help them in their difficult times and pandemics so I totally agree with view.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on financial security during crises like the pandemic and the importance of instilling saving habits in youth. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the argument regarding the pandemic is used in both the second and third paragraphs, which limits the depth of the discussion. To reach a higher band, you should expand on different aspects of financial planning, such as long-term investment or the psychological benefits of financial independence, rather than focusing primarily on emergency savings.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'If people save money' is used frequently to link ideas, and transitions between sentences could be more varied. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between ideas occasionally feels disjointed due to the limited range of linking words. Improving the variety of transition signals (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in light of this') would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'very important', 'very essential', and 'very useful'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'pandimic' (pandemic) and 'valnurable' (vulnerable), and minor collocation issues like 'money is very essential part in community'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling of key terms. Expanding your range to include topic-specific collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences ('If we save money...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in recent Corona pandemic', 'for kids college') and punctuation. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Money is very essential part in community'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
