It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that saving money for the future by all age groups, including young adults, is significant. I firmly agree with this notion, as saving money can provide many benefits in later life.

Firstly, life is very unpredictable, and there are many uncertainties regarding job security and income generation in today's world due to fewer job demands and the increasing use of Artificial inteligence. Therefore, having a safety net to rely on when times get difficult is crucial. Saving money in early life is a great way to build this safety net; the more money you save, the bigger your safety net is. Moreover, saving money is a great way to build a retirement plan. Separating money from monthly income at a younger age and adding it to a retirement plan can allow an individual to retire early; later, that money can be kept as savings or invested to make a profit. The possibilities of using saved money are endless.

Nevertheless, some people believe in the idea that you only live once and prefer to spend the money they have earned and spoil themselves. However, I believe saving up before spending is more mindful, and a large amount of savings can facilitate buying something that has been on your bucket list for a long period of time. For instance, a 40-year-old can buy his dream car because he saved money since he was 20. Furthermore, people tend to save money to have a better life in the future, provide an expensive, well-rounded home for their families, and live comfortably in their later years. If individuals begin saving in their early years, they will not have to worry about earning enough when they build a family and can fall back on savings to provide luxuries to their loved ones.

To sum up, although some people do not think it is essential to save money for the future, I believe that it provides a great opportunity to build a better life, as life is dynamic and a safety net can go a long way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments, such as the unpredictability of the job market and the benefits of long-term financial planning. The ideas are extended with examples, such as the 40-year-old buying a car, which supports your argument effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully developed; for instance, the link between saving and 'well-rounded homes' could be more explicitly connected to the prompt's focus on the future. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Nevertheless', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate. While the structure is sound, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. For example, the shift between the counter-argument and your rebuttal is clear, but could be integrated with more varied linking phrases to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'safety net', 'income generation', and 'well-rounded' are used effectively. There is a minor spelling error ('inteligence' should be 'intelligence'), but this does not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic or less common collocations to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. For example, instead of 'spoil themselves', you could use 'indulge in immediate gratification'. You have a good grasp of topic-specific vocabulary, which allows you to express your ideas clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over grammar, and most of your sentences are error-free. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'some people believe in the idea that you only live once', which is slightly wordy. Your use of punctuation is generally accurate, and complex structures, such as conditional sentences ('If individuals begin saving... they will not have to worry...'), are handled well. To achieve a higher band, aim for a greater variety of complex structures and ensure that your sentence variety is consistent throughout the essay.
