Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding your business, the explanation of why saving is important for young people is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. To improve, you should aim to expand on the broader societal or economic benefits of financial literacy for youth, rather than focusing primarily on personal anecdotes. The response is sufficient in length, but the arguments could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. Ensure that each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported point to demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by mechanical and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive devices. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences are joined awkwardly, such as 'because saving money would bring a lots of opportunities'. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider range of transition signals (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly and logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'basic need of life' and 'lots of opportunities'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'keep in account' instead of 'keep in mind' or 'save', and 'get a lot of goods' which is vague. To achieve a higher score, you should attempt to use more precise, academic vocabulary related to finance and personal development. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate less common lexical items that demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect punctuation (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'when i was kids' and 'i got doubled by business'. While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction, capitalization, and verb tense consistency. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will also help improve your score in this criterion.
