Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that it is significant for everyone, including the younger generation, to save money for their future. I completely agree with this view because savings can be used in difficult circumstances for the survival and to face many other problems.

One of the major reasons is that money saved for the future can prove beneficial in several situations. Sometimes, unexpected crisis happen in the world, such as COVID-19. At that time, countries often have to face economic difficulties and it also affects the income of the local residents of that state. In this case, people can survive better who have enough savings to fulfill their basic necessities. They may endure less pressure and face the problem courageously. For example, individuals can afford better medical treatments and consequently, they may have less stress of the hardships, as they may have enough resources to survive and outlive the unbearable conditions.

Another reason is that no one knows about the sudden happenings in their lives. For example, a person may have serious accident and sustain several injuries, and if he will be the only bread and better earner of his home it will become very tough for him to live in that condition. However, if the person may have an immense savings, he will be comfortable and get better treatment. In addition, getting fired from the high-paid job may lead young individuals to remain in trouble if they may not have alternatives to live comfortably until getting a new job. Many young people often need money to fulfill extra requirements, such as hanging out with friends, so it is crucial for them to save a large amount of money to meet their additional expenses.

In conclusion, it is advantageous to build up savings for the future, as it can provide people with greater financial security to cope with challenging circumstances and leisure activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as discussing economic crises like COVID-19 and personal emergencies. However, the development is slightly uneven; while the first body paragraph is well-supported, the second paragraph attempts to cover too many disparate points—accidents, job loss, and leisure spending—which leads to a lack of depth. To reach a higher band, focus on developing one or two strong arguments per paragraph rather than listing several minor ones. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the major reasons', 'In this case', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between the ideas in the second paragraph is a bit disjointed due to the rapid shift in topics. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'unbearable conditions' and 'financial security'. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'bread and better earner' (should be 'breadwinner') and 'immense savings' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would improve the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and conditional structures, such as 'if he will be' (should be 'if he were') and 'if they may not have' (should be 'if they do not have'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure occasionally feels repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering the use of conditionals and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication.
