Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that everyone, including young people, should save money for their future. I strongly agree with this view because having savings can provide financial security during unexpected situations and help individuals achieve important future goals.
The main reason why saving money is important is that it can protect people from financial difficulties. Life is unpredictable, and individuals may suddenly face situations such as losing their job, having an accident or dealing with an expensive emergency. If people have some money saved, they can manage these problems without depending heavily on their families or taking loans. This is particularly important for young people because developing the habit of saving at an early age can make them more financially responsible in the future. For example, a young employee who regularly saves part of their salary can use these savings if they become unemployed for several months.
Another important benefit of saving is that it allows people to achieve their long-term goals. Young adults may need considerable amounts of money for higher education, buying a house, starting a business or travelling abroad. Without savings, they may have to borrow money or delay these plans. For instance, a university graduate who saves a fixed percentage of their income every month could eventually collect enough money to start a small business. Therefore, saving does not only provide security but also gives people greater financial independence.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future. Although it may be difficult to save regularly when income is limited, even small amounts can provide protection against unexpected problems and help individuals achieve their future ambitions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student fully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear and well-developed position throughout the essay. The prompt asks whether everyone, including young people, should save money for their future. The student strongly agrees and logically extends this stance across two body paragraphs, discussing financial security during emergencies and the achievement of long-term goals. Ideas are well-supported with relevant examples, such as a young employee saving part of their salary or a university graduate wanting to start a small business. The response shows a strong awareness of the prompt's nuances by specifically addressing the inclusion of young people. Therefore, this performance comfortably meets the criteria for Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with a clear introductory thesis, followed by well-sequenced body paragraphs, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used flexibly and appropriately to connect ideas, as seen with phrases like 'The main reason why', 'Another important benefit', and 'Therefore'. Referencing is clear, and paragraphing is managed sufficiently and appropriately. There are no notable faults in cohesion, making the progression of ideas smooth and easy to follow. This aligns well with the descriptors for a Band 7.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for some flexibility and precision. Phrases such as 'financial security', 'unexpected situations', 'financial difficulties', and 'financial independence' are used appropriately. The writer also attempts less common lexical items, such as 'unpredictable', 'considerable amounts', and 'fixed percentage', showing some awareness of collocation and style. Spelling and word choice are generally accurate, and although there are no truly sophisticated, rare idioms or academic collocations that would push this into the higher bands, the vocabulary is more than adequate to convey precise meaning without communication errors, meriting a Band 7.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures alongside simple sentences. The writer successfully employs conditional and relative clauses, such as 'If people have some money saved, they can manage these problems...' and '...a young employee who regularly saves part of their salary can use these savings...'. There are frequent error-free sentences, and the overall control of grammar and punctuation is strong. Minor slips are virtually absent, and the grammar never impedes communication. The structural variety and accuracy place this writing solidly within the Band 7.0 category.
