Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some believes that saving money is important for all, others argue that being more materialistic to enjoy life at the fullest is inevitable. This essay wil discuss both views before concluding why I personally believe savig money is more important for all classes of people.
In the one hand, money is an essential medium to consume certain facilities and buy services to lead our day to day life.
In a fast moving capitalistic world where the medium of determing the worth of a person has become the ammount of money or wealth he has gained over the years, it is undoubtedly true to start saving from an earle age. having the skill of saving money enables a person to get significant help during emergency and to tackle the unexpected obstacles. It gives immense confidence and belief in one's worth if he knows he has some cash deposited for a crisis moment. This skill also empowers us to fulfil our dreams, be it to buy a house, a property or so on. Moreover, it also creates a connection withinn family circles and relatives if he or she gets some assistance in their bad times. This skill develops quantative analysis about money management and fosters critical decision making.
On the other hand, concentrating solely on expenditure of different products and services sometimes creates negative effect on the mental upbringing of a person. It can inspire a person to become more materialistic, allienating him from happiness and mental growth. It also causes significant distance from family and friends and sometimes become a major concern of physical diseases. A businessman in an interview expressed though he has achieved his most desired position in his career, it made him an average father, son, husband and friend to his nearer and dearer ones due to lack of money saving skills.
In my opinion, although money is an inevitable part e in all stages of our human life, there has to have an observation about oneself about his sole prupose of his life goals. That's why, saving money is an important skill that every parents require to apply in their own life as well as to their children's. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the importance of saving money and the counter-argument regarding materialism, ultimately presenting a clear personal position. The introduction outlines the writer's stance, and the body paragraphs attempt to explore the nuances of financial habits. However, the development of ideas in the second body paragraph is somewhat contradictory, as the paragraph meant to present the counter-argument actually describes the negative mental and social effects of poor saving habits rather than the benefits of spending. Despite this conceptual confusion regarding the opposing view, the main position is maintained, supporting a Band 6.5 descriptor where all parts are addressed though some ideas are under-developed or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is an overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion'. However, there are noticeable cohesion and referencing issues throughout the text. For instance, the transition 'In the one hand' contains a grammatical error, and referencing pronouns like 'he or she gets' or 'his sole purpose' can be ambiguous. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the mechanical and occasionally faulty use of cohesive devices places this response securely at Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic discussion, incorporating terms like 'capitalistic', 'quantative analysis', 'materialistic', and 'emergency'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-form errors that detract from precision. Examples include 'Some believes' instead of 'Some believe', 'savig' instead of 'saving', 'ammount' instead of 'amount', 'earle age' instead of 'early age', 'allienating' instead of 'alienating', and 'prupose' instead of 'purpose'. Furthermore, collocations like 'major life hack skills' are slightly unnatural. Because the vocabulary is adequate to convey meaning despite spelling and slip errors, it fits the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing (e.g., 'if he or she gets some assistance'). There are, however, consistent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses across the essay. Subject-verb agreement errors appear early on ('Some believes'), and articles are occasionally misused or omitted ('e in all stages', 'every parents require'). Additionally, some sentences are overly convoluted and syntactically awkward, such as 'there has to have an observation about oneself about his sole prupose of his life goals'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, placing it at Band 6.
