Student answer (Band 6.0)

A growing number of population believe that the ultimate aim of earning money is to save it for future needs. I strongly agree with this view, as savings help people to deal with financial emergencies and to achieve their future goals.

Nowadays, people are more aware of saving than spending. It has became a most important part life by providing necessary facilities for the person. Medical emergencies, for instance, savings provide necessary assistance during health crisis by helping people to manage medicine costs, hospital bills, and providing early cure of the disease. Moreover, by backing up the money people can live peacefully without any financial stresses, as it helps to keep the individual healthy and happy over the time.

Another advantage of keeping money future use is, it helps the population to achieve the future goals by providing sufficient funding and required facilities. People can be able pursue the course of the study according to their field of interest without compromising on financial investment such as, MBBS, Law, and Engineering after which the individuals can work on their chosen field and even earn better and live a life of their interest. Conversely, saving money will teaches the person to develop financial discipline right from the childhood, as it helps to avoid any unnecessary spendings and to manage money responsibly for future necessities.

In conclusion, saving money will enable the person to become financially independent and helps to manage the emergency health crisis. Hence, I believe that saving money is an important part in every phase of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear and consistent position in strong agreement with the statement. The writer successfully highlights multiple arguments supporting the importance of saving money, such as managing medical emergencies, achieving future goals, and developing financial discipline. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples like healthcare crises and educational pursuits such as MBBS, Law, and Engineering. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or lack deeper elaboration, keeping the development at a Band 7 level. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed adequately with a clear position maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured, moving from an introductory stance to distinct body paragraphs focusing on emergencies, future goals, and financial discipline, culminating in a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, including words and phrases like 'Nowadays', 'for instance', 'Moreover', and 'Conversely'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and referencing within the text remains clear. While cohesion functions adequately to guide the reader through the text, occasional mechanical transitions prevent it from reaching a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'financial emergencies', 'health crisis', 'financial discipline', and 'financially independent'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'growing number of population' instead of 'population' or 'number of people', 'has became a most important part life' (grammatical error spilling into lexical choice), 'backing up the money', and 'unnecessary spendings' (spending is generally uncountable here). Despite these errors, the lexical range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response. Examples include 'has became' (tense error), 'part life' (missing article), 'savings provide' used without a clear subject-verb agreement or prepositional link, 'People can be able pursue' (modal error), 'saving money will teaches' (tense/agreement error), and awkward phrasing like 'keeping money future use'. While these errors do not impede overall communication and simple sentences are generally accurate, the frequency of slips prevents the assignment of a higher band score.
