Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement that saving money for the future is important. The response is divided into logical main bodies discussing investment opportunities and educational purposes respectively. Ideas are generally relevant, such as mentioning property investments, stock exchange, and funding studies abroad, but some points lack deeper extension and contain slight generalisations. For instance, the reference to young people showing interest in studying in the USA and Europe is introduced but not fully explored. However, the overall position is maintained throughout, and the main ideas are supported with appropriate examples, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, although the body paragraphs are somewhat dense and could be broken down further to improve visual flow. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Secondly', though some of these transitional phrases are used mechanically. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where pronoun reference or linking between sentences feels slightly abrupt, as seen in 'The expenses of study abroad will be also covers from the savings. The accomodation expense, university fees and food expense.' This demonstrates the characteristics of a Band 6 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'property investments', 'stock exchange', and 'cost-effective'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'young generation' instead of 'the younger generation', 'worse circumstance that would happens', 'more easy' instead of 'easier', 'insterests', 'covers' instead of 'covered', 'accomodation', and 'options' instead of 'option'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, as they show inconsistent control over less common vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The student attempts complex structures with modal verbs and conditional-like phrasing, such as 'we will be safe from any worse circumstance that would happens in the future' and 'During study abroad, we can travels other countries.' There are several frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('that would happens', 'policies generally more cost-effective', 'expenses... will be also covers', 'young peoples'), incorrect prepositional usage, and tense inconsistencies. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar performance with a Band 5.5.
