It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a growing argument that saving money for future is crucial for all withour any exception for the children. I agree with this position, mainly because the benefits to the children themselves are substantial in emergency, and because inflation is rising continiously.

The strongest argument for saving money is that it helps them to be stable in emergency cases . A teenager who has saving can use it at the time of family emergency, university fee or sometimes for his marriage. My younger brother has his own savings which he use for his desired things such as books, games and also presents for siblings and friends. Those who have habit of saving are confident and more practical in their future.

A second reason concerns fairnes as the inflation rate is increasing dramatically in many countries so saving can help you at the time of disaster or unemployment. The young people who have saving are able to cope with the inflation or sometimes turn that inflation into opportunity with the help of their savings. Those who object usually argue that children should enjoy their life without any stress about their future. This is a fair concern, though it is really an argument about design rather than principle.

In conclusion, although saving money at the age of entertainment is difficult, but i believe that it helps in maing the young people responsible and prepared for the time of emergency and inflation. So, I assert that saving is important for teenagers as well it is for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that saving money is important for everyone, including children and young people. The writer provides relevant ideas to support this view, such as financial stability during emergencies, rising inflation, and instilling responsibility. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally slips into generalisation, such as mentioning university fees and marriage briefly without full elaboration. For instance, the example of the younger brother buying books and games is a bit trivial and sits closer to pocket money habits rather than long-term saving for the future. Despite these limitations, the position remains clear throughout, and the main arguments are sufficiently linked to the prompt. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, where all parts of the task are addressed, but some ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the emergency benefits and the impact of inflation. However, the cohesion within and between sentences is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, transition phrases are basic, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the sentence 'the young people who have saving are able to cope... or sometimes turn that inflation into opportunity.' Furthermore, repetitive patterns in sentence openings and minor cohesive slips prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the logical progression is generally maintained, satisfying the criteria for Band 6 where cohesion is present but occasionally faulty or mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'continiously', 'unemployment', and 'responsible'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'withour' instead of 'without', 'continiously' instead of 'continually', 'fairnes' instead of 'fairness', and 'maing' instead of 'making'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'at the time of entertainment'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they demonstrate limitations in lexical control and accuracy. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the central message, but frequent slips in spelling and precision restrict the score to a solid Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with structures like 'Those who have habit of saving are confident...' and 'Although saving money at the age of entertainment is difficult, but i believe...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several article errors ('at the time of family emergency', 'at the time of disaster'), subject-verb agreement issues ('his own savings which he use'), and punctuation errors, notably the comma splice in the conclusion ('difficult, but i believe'). Additionally, the capitalization of 'I' is missing in the conclusion ('i believe'). These errors occur frequently, though they rarely impede overall communication. This mix of structures and persistent error frequency corresponds closely to the Band 6 descriptors.
