Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today’s world, money has become increasingly important to meet our needs. Among young people, some people believe that they should spend their money on enjoying life rather than saving. While some people agreed on saving money for financial security. From my perspective, I agree that everyone should develop the habit of saving money for their future. This essay will explain the reasons for this perspective.
There are many benefits of saving money, which give financial security during unexpected situations.
Emergencies such as business loss, medical expenses, or educational expenses can occur without deadlines. That people who save the money can resolve their emergency challenges without taking loans. For example, during COVID, many people who had saved money were able to manage their living expenses even though they lost their source of income. Moreover, saving from a young age encourages responsible financial habits. Learning to budget and distinguish between essential and unnecessary spending helps young people become financially disciplined adults. In addition, money saved over a long period can be invested, allowing it to grow through compound interest. This enables individuals to achieve major life goals, such as pursuing higher education, purchasing a home, or starting a business, without experiencing significant financial pressure.
Admittedly, it is equally important for young people to enjoy their lives and invest in personal development. Spending money on travel, education, or acquiring new skills can enrich their experiences and improve future career opportunities. Nevertheless, these objectives should not come at the expense of neglecting financial planning. A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wisely, is the most practical solution.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that saving money is essential for people of all ages. It provides financial security, promotes discipline, and helps individuals achieve long-term goals while preparing them for unforeseen circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout the essay that saving money is crucial for both young people and adults. The introduction outlines the writer's stance, and body paragraphs present well-developed arguments supporting financial security, responsible habits, and long-term goal achievement. Relevant examples, such as referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, are used to support the ideas effectively. The counter-perspective regarding the importance of enjoying life and investing in personal development is also acknowledged and balanced nicely. The ideas are extended appropriately, meeting the criteria for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting from the introduction, moving into the benefits of saving, addressing the counter-argument, and concluding effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Nevertheless' are used to connect ideas, though some sentences in the opening paragraph feel slightly disjointed, such as 'While some people agreed on saving money for financial security.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, resulting in a cohesive flow that aligns well with the descriptors for Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for some flexibility and precision, such as 'financial security', 'unforeseen circumstances', and 'compound interest'. There are also successful attempts at less common vocabulary items with an awareness of style and collocation, including 'distinguish between essential and unnecessary spending' and 'significant financial pressure'. While there are a few minor lexical inaccuracies, such as 'give financial security' instead of 'provide financial security', these errors do not impede communication. The vocabulary range and control comfortably sit at a Band 7.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a good variety of complex structures throughout the essay, such as 'While some people agreed on saving money for financial security' and 'A balanced approach, where a portion of income is saved while the remainder is used wisely, is the most practical solution.' There are frequent error-free sentences, alongside a few minor grammatical slips, such as fragment sentences ('That people who save the money can resolve...') and tense or preposition choices. However, control of grammar and punctuation remains generally good, supporting clear communication and fitting the Band 7.0 descriptors well.
