Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many people argue that everyone, especially young people, should save money for the future. I strongly agree with this view because saving provides financial security, helps people achieve their long-term goals, and prepares them for unexpected difficulties.
Firstly, saving money from a young age can provide a strong financial foundation. Young people may have fewer responsibilities than adults, so they can develop good saving habits before their expenses increase. Even putting aside a small amount of money every month can become a significant sum over several years. For example, a university student who saves part of their part-time income may eventually have enough money to pay for further education, buy a car, or start a business.
Secondly, having savings reduces financial stress when unexpected situations occur. People can lose their jobs, face medical expenses, or need to repair their homes or vehicles without warning. Those who have an emergency fund are more likely to deal with such problems without borrowing heavily from banks or relatives. This is particularly important for young adults who are beginning to live independently and cannot always rely on their parents for financial support.
However, saving should not mean that young people avoid spending money on important experiences. Travel, education, hobbies, and social activities can contribute significantly to personal development and happiness. Therefore, I believe that young people should maintain a balance between enjoying their present lives and preparing for the future.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone should save money for the future, including young people. Developing this habit early can provide financial independence, protect individuals from unexpected problems, and make it easier to achieve important goals later in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position and discussing both the benefits of saving money for young people and acknowledging the counter-perspective that spending on experiences is also important. The ideas are well developed and supported with relevant examples, such as a university student saving for education or business, and avoiding the need to borrow heavily from banks or relatives. The position is maintained consistently throughout the essay, demonstrating a high level of task fulfillment in line with Band 8 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically sequenced with a clear overall progression. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to supporting body paragraphs, a well-placed nuance paragraph addressing spending, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Therefore' are used naturally and effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, reflecting the standards expected at Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, such as 'financial foundation', 'emergency fund', and 'personal development'. Less common lexical items are attempted with good awareness of style and collocation (e.g., 'financial independence', 'unexpected situations'). Although the vocabulary is generally natural and appropriate for an academic task, it occasionally lacks the fully sophisticated control or wide-ranging uncommon phrases required for higher bands, placing it firmly at Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conditional and subordinate clauses successfully (e.g., 'Young people may have fewer responsibilities than adults, so they can develop good saving habits before their expenses increase.'). There is good control of grammar and punctuation throughout, and the majority of sentences are error-free. The occasional slips do not impede communication at all, reflecting solid Band 7 performance.
