Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that saving money is important for everyone, including young people. The student attempts to develop relevant ideas, such as unpredictability in life, financial crises, and teaching independence to children. However, the development remains limited and lacks depth or specific personal examples. Furthermore, a major constraint is length: the essay contains only 180 words, failing to meet the required 250-word minimum. This significant shortfall prevents full development of the arguments and leads to a penalty under Task Achievement. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text exhibits basic organizational structure with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides of the argument briefly, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are utilized to connect ideas, such as 'first and the foremost', 'moreover', and 'on the other hand'. However, the progression is occasionally disrupted by mechanical transitions and simple linking patterns. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall logical flow is somewhat basic and abbreviated due to the shortness of the response. The coherence meets the requirements for a Band 6, where the arrangement is generally coherent despite some mechanical faults.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic points about saving money. Words and phrases like 'contemporary era', 'unforeseen situations', and 'independent' show some attempt to use varied vocabulary suitable for the topic. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'save expenditure', 'financial cricces' (crises), and 'surviving their lives'. Additionally, spelling errors ('cricces') and capitalization issues ('i') detract from lexical control. The vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures like 'if a family faces... then they able to...'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'unforeseen situations happens'), and malformed verb phrases (e.g., 'then can be capable for handle'). Punctuation and capitalization are also neglected throughout the response. Because errors occur frequently and sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 5.
